[PoP] 5/25 late service
Friends,
I'm still in need of someone who could sub as assisting minister for the late service this coming Sunday. I'm already in Chicago as I write this e-mail, so I won't be able to do any more individualized heckling than this to ask for help--If you're able to serve as assisting minister, please let me know!!! (I will take one of your spots during the summer if you'd like.)
Thanks and blessings.

[PoP] Natural Church Development (NCD) survey , Take Two!
It is time for Prince of Peace to take the Natural Church Development (NCD) survey, again!
Almost two year ago, 30 disciples at Prince of Peace took the NCD survey for the first time. Since then, with the guidance of our NCD Health Team, we have been working on ways to increase our passionate spiritually – our minimum factor (the one “quality characteristic” that most needed our attention according to the survey results). We are anxious to see how far we have come, and what other “quality characteristics” we may have improved along the way.
We have invited again 30 disciples at PoP to take the survey. This time it will be on Sunday, June 22nd.
If you received the invitation to take the NCD Survey and have not yet responded please hit “reply” to this email and let us know your availability for this 20 minute survey on Sunday June 22nd 12noon-ish.
Pr. John Collins, our NCD Coach, will be with us on this day to preach and help administer the survey. If you have questions or would like to learn more about PoP experience with NCD, please talk with anyone of the NCD Health Team (see below) or read about our NCD journey on our website at: http://www.popnj.

[PoP] CreatingCommunity for May 25, 2008, the Second Sunday after Pentecost
Welcome to the weekly CreatingCommunity email devotion from Prince of Peace
Lutheran Church, Princeton Junction, NJ.
This devotion is to be done in preparation for May 25, 2008, the Second
Sunday after Pentecost.
Please follow these three steps:
1. Read through the text
2. Respond to the questions (Pick from three sets of questions)
3. Offer a Prayer
Matthew 6:24-34
"No one can serve two masters; for a slave will either hate the one and love
the other, or be devoted to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve
God and wealth. "Therefore I tell you, do not worry about your life, what
you will eat or what you will drink, or about your body, what you will wear.
Is not life more than food, and the body more than clothing? Look at the
birds of the air; they neither sow nor reap nor gather into barns, and yet
your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not of more value than they? And
can any of you by worrying add a single hour to your span of life? And why
do you worry about clothing? Consider the lilies of the field, how they
grow; they neither toil nor spin, yet I tell you, even Solomon in all his
glory was not clothed like one of these. But if God so clothes the grass of
the field, which is alive today and tomorrow is thrown into the oven, will
he not much more clothe you-you of little faith? Therefore do not worry,
saying, "What will we eat?' or "What will we drink?' or "What will we wear?'
For it is the Gentiles who strive for all these things; and indeed your
heavenly Father knows that you need all these things. But strive first for
the kingdom of God and his righteousness, and all these things will be given
to you as well. "So do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will bring
worries of its own. Today's trouble is enough for today. (NRSV)
Pick from one of the three sets of questions
Family Questions (and activity #3)
1. Describe a day in the life of a bird. How does God care for that bird?
2. What would we say it means to "be worried?" What do you worry about? What
do others worry about?
3. Invite everyone to make up a skit about "Silly Lily (or Louie)" the
flower that wasn't content with what s/he had. Lily would at least want her
petals pierced, lots of make-up, nail polish for the tips of her leaves,
etc. Louie would want to buff up, drink all kinds of sports drinks, have the
latest athletic jacket, etc. Act out the skit. Then talk about what you
learned from the skit.
No Experience Necessary Questions
1. What do you think God is doing here?
2. What do you hear God saying to you, personally?
3. What do you hear God saying to us (family, congregation, community,
nation)?
Advance Questions
1. What do you worry about? What does your worries say about your priorities
(masters) in life?
2. What does the diversity of flowers tell you about God? Where else have
you see that God-given-diversity in your life?
3. Jesus encourages his disciples to trust in God to provide for them, just
as God provides for the birds and flowers. Do you think this advice is
realistic in today's world? Explain.
Create a prayer of your own or use this prayer.
Thank you, God, for the beautiful creatures you put here for us to enjoy and
to remind us of your constant care for us. Amen.
All individuals and congregational families are asked to set aside a time
during the week for the use of this devotion.
All Prince of Peace teams are asked to begin their meeting this week with
this devotion.
The purpose of the email is to gather all individuals, families, church
ministry teams and groups, along with all other interested individuals,
around a weekly study of a common scripture text. Please work through this
devotion at a convenient time for you during the week in preparation for
Sunday worship, where the same scripture text will be our focus in prayer,
song, preaching and teaching.

[PoP] Yet another Akaloo Intergenerational Event this Sunday
One More Akaloo Intergenerational Event
Fun for Everyone on Sunday, May 18
Don’t miss this last opportunity for this year’s Akaloo (following Jesus) Intergenerational Blast.
Gather with us in the Fellowship Hall at 9:45 a.m. for an hour of singing, crafts, storytelling, fun learning, and ice cream sundaes, as we review what it means to be “celebrate the church” (the current Akaloo Unit theme) and begin to imagine how we might continue to Akaloo (follow Jesus) during the summertime.
Intergenerational events are designed for everyone– adults, youth, children, parents, grandparents, family and friends. No previous Akaloo experience is necessary. Simply put: if you love God, love to lean about God and love children this is the place to be this Sunday.
Some of us will be gathering on Saturday from 1-2pm to prepare the fellowship hall for Sunday. Join us then if you are able. Many hands make light the work.

[PoP] CreatingCommunity for May 18, 2008, the Festival of Holy Trinity
Welcome to the weekly CreatingCommunity email devotion from Prince of Peace
Lutheran Church.
This devotion is to be done in preparation for May 18, 2008, the festival of
Holy Trinity.
Please follow these three steps:
1. Read through the text
2. Respond to the questions (Pick from three sets of questions)
3. Offer a Prayer
Matthew 28:16-20
Now the eleven disciples went to Galilee, to the mountain to which Jesus had
directed them. When they saw him, they worshiped him; but some doubted. And
Jesus came and said to them, 'All authority in heaven and on earth has been
given to me. Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them
in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and
teaching them to obey everything that I have commanded you. And remember, I
am with you always, to the end of the age.' (NRSV)
Pick from one of the three sets of questions
Family Questions
1. What does Jesus tell his disciples to do? How are they to do it?
2. Who are some of Jesus' present day disciples who baptize and teach?
3. What does Jesus want us to remember? What could you make or write or
draw or do which would help you to remember Jesus is "with you always"? Do
it.
No Experience Necessary Questions
1. What do you think God is doing here?
2. What do you hear God saying to you, personally?
3. What do you hear God saying to us (family, congregation, community,
nation)?
Advance Questions
1. What does it mean that Christians worship a "Triune God"?
2. If the word "trinity" doesn't appear in the Bible, why is it alright for
us to use it?
3. How do the creeds help us name and worship this three-in-one God?
Create a prayer of your own or use this prayer.
Lord, please help us today to reflect your image in such a way that will
bring glory and honor to you. In Christ's name we pray, Amen.
